Wheel Alignment Sydney — What It Is, When You Need It, and What It Costs

Wheel alignment is one of the most commonly skipped maintenance items in Sydney — and one of the most expensive to ignore. Here is what misalignment does to your tyres, fuel economy and handling.

Wheel alignment is the adjustment of your vehicle's suspension geometry — the angles at which your tyres contact the road. It is not about the wheels themselves, but about the suspension components that hold them. Incorrect alignment forces your tyres to scrub against the road at an angle, causing rapid uneven wear, worse fuel economy and compromised handling.

Signs You Need a Wheel Alignment

  • The car pulls to the left or right on a straight, level road
  • The steering wheel sits off-centre when driving straight
  • Tyres wearing unevenly — inner or outer edge wearing faster than the rest
  • Steering feels vague or the car wanders
  • After hitting a significant pothole or kerb
  • After any suspension component replacement

How Often Should You Get an Alignment?

Every 12 months or 20,000 km as a minimum. Sydney's roads — particularly in Western and Southwest Sydney — have enough potholes and road surface variation to knock alignment out between services. We check alignment angles at every logbook service and advise if adjustment is needed.

Four-Wheel vs Two-Wheel Alignment

Most modern vehicles require a four-wheel alignment — front and rear axles independently adjusted. Two-wheel (front-only) alignment is largely obsolete for passenger cars. Using a workshop that offers only front-wheel alignment on a vehicle that requires four-wheel is a false economy.

Cost of a Wheel Alignment in Sydney

A four-wheel laser alignment typically costs $80–$140 at a reputable independent in Sydney. Dealer pricing runs higher. Note that we do not perform wheel alignments as a mobile service — alignment requires fixed laser equipment. We advise on alignment at every service and refer you to a trusted alignment specialist if needed.
